Albers makes impressive Seamen debut. |
The Dribbling Seamen started their season out strong, taking the opening game by defeating the Tune Squad 103-73. The Seamen were led offensively by Ryan Albers who made his Dribbling Seamen debut by scoring 27 points on seven three-point baskets.
The team started off slow and trailed 52-48 before a Nick Anderson break-away bucket got the momentum going the Seamen's way. Before the night was over, the seamen had four players in double digits. Albers was backed up by Nick Tate (22), Isaiah Acfalle (18), and Caleb Wragge (17).
Sean Szarnych, who was recently named 2014 team Captain, did not play due to an upper body injury and is currently on the Disabled List. Although Szarnych saw his squad perform just fine without him, his sideline presence irked many others.
Unnamed sources cite unsportsmanlike
attitudes from Seamen players.
|
"That Sean guy," said one source. "I was ready to flip *expletive* on him. Ok maybe some of the stuff was funny the first couple of times, but he kept it up the whole time."
The criticism wasn't just isolated to Szarnych. The team was called "unsportsmanlike" for running up the score.
"Give me a break," said another source. "When you're up by that much with two minutes left and you just keep shooting three's. I'm competitive and I was about ready to lose it."
The Dribbling Seamen are not in uncharted waters when being called unsportsmanlike. Several times in 2013, teams left very upset at the attitude of the team. Wragge was even heard saying "Hey the rest of the teams we play aren't going to be this
bad. Some of these teams are actually good," after a 58-28 win on Opening Night in 2013. Regardless, it can be argued that the team's win on Sunday was the secondary story to the team's unsportsmanlike attitude.
The Seamen are currently slated to return to the court on Sunday, October 12 barring suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct from the Clarke University Intramurals. A game time or opponent have yet to be set. Be sure to check the Seamen Schedule for up-to-date schedule and results news.
